One of my favorite times of the day is dawn, just before sunrise. Waking up before the sun is energizing. For me there’s something magical about it. In my mind, I picture all the forest fairies waking for the day as the vegetation comes to life when the sunbeams rest on it. Birds start to chirp and the day comes alive. The creek happily bubbles in the distance. It beckons me and I keep walking towards the east with the promise of light and warmth. Standing there in silence breathing in the cold air I take in the surroundings, then close my eyes and allow myself to be immersed in the sounds. There really is no better way to start a day. I’m not a morning person but when I can force myself up before the sun I’m always rewarded.

One of my mother’s favorite places on the property is this big tree that fell over and continues to live. In the summer it’s branches are covered with leaves and it’s really quite beautiful.

In this area the sunlight was dancing off the crystals on the branches creating colorful flashes of light. I really wish I was able to capture that because it was truly beautiful.

Standing at the edge of the pasture and looking into this little slice of woods, the creek not far behind. I’d really love to clear out some paths through here this spring because it’s such a nice little area to go for a walk in. You have to cross the creek in some spots but it stays pretty low through summer so it’s easily done.

Pictured above is Velvet, a Plymouth Blue Rock hen. She just became a momma because one of her eggs hatches last night on the first day of spring. Congrats Velvet! 🙂
